MARK LEMMON (Club Coach & Head of Training)

Mark Lemmon has been at the heart of the Club MSM community for many years — not only as an accomplished multisport athlete, but also as the driving force behind many of our club training sessions.

A Triathlon South Africa Level 1 certified coach, Mark’s coaching philosophy combines structured planning, personal racing experience, and science-based training principles. His programmes typically work around focused 12-week training cycles designed to help athletes prepare effectively for key events. Mark uses TrainingPeaks to structure training and works extensively with heart-rate zone training to ensure athletes train smart and consistently.

Mark’s own sporting career spans more than two decades of competitive endurance sport. He has represented South Africa at numerous World Championship events in duathlon, including the prestigious Powerman Zofingen Long Distance Duathlon in Switzerland on multiple occasions, where he has consistently placed among the top international age-group athletes. He has also served as South African team captain at several World Championship events.

Beyond international racing, Mark has an extensive list of endurance achievements including multiple Ironman South Africa finishes, a Comrades Marathon completion, numerous Two Oceans Ultra Marathons (earning his Blue Number), and participation in events such as the Double Century cycle race and the 3 Peaks Trail Challenge.

Mark has also played an important leadership role in the sport locally. He served as Vice Chair for Duathlon on the Western Province Triathlon Committee and has been part of the Club MSM committee since 2010, including serving as Club Chairperson from 2018 to 2020. In 2019 he was elected to the World Triathlon Age Group Commission representing Africa.

At Club MSM, Mark leads many of the club’s training sessions and enjoys helping athletes of all levels improve — whether they are preparing for their first multisport event or aiming for the podium.
